Ruminant Animals
In the study below (Kondo, et al., 1969), heifer calves, 20- and 184-day-old, were studied for 180 days. Their rations included 5% by volume supplements of clino natural zeolites. Growth for all animals was improved by the decreased incidence of diarrhea and soft feces, and by the stimulation of appetite. The animals on the zeolite-supplemented feeding programs gained 20% more weight versus control, because they consumed more feed. However, the feed costs per kg. of weight gained were significantly less versus control. No side effects were detected, and the feces of the zeolite-fed animals contained less water and fewer particles of undigested food in the <5 mm size range.

Bartko, et al. reported that natural zeolites reduced the incidence and severity of diarrhea in calves. The control groups had an incidence of diarrhea of 68.7% and mortality of 4.7%, while the natural zeolite groups had 18.0% and 1.3% respectively.
